The Screwball Rally – Team Hung-over

With just under 5 weeks to go until the teams taking part in ‘The Screwball Rally’ take offUntitled for their road trip around Europe; we chatted to one of the teams we here at Scotstaff, are sponsoring – Team Hungover

Held between the 22nd and the 26th of September 2016, The Screwball Rally is an annual event where teams taking part have to enter with a car worth £750 or less and travel a route through France, Germany and the Czech Republic, within 5 days.
However, unlike other annual motor rally’s, The Screwball Rally is for charity and is not a race. The aim of this event is to have fun and raise as much money as possible for your chosen charity.

Team Hungover is made up of three lifelong friends, Steve, Steve and Matthew who are raising money for the Stroke Association. They have chosen this charity as Steve’s wife Claire, a fit and healthy mum of 2, suffered a life changing stoke at age 39. This sadly left Claire with a weakness on her left side, fatigue and cognitive problems.

According to the Stroke Association website, stroke occurs approximately 152,000 time a year in the UK; that breaks down to one every 3 minutes and 27 seconds. Stroke is one the largest causes of disability, with the average age in Scotland of stroke being 42. Stroke kills twice as many women as breast cancer and more men than prostate and testicular cancer combined a year.

Steve said ‘After watching what Claire has gone through since her stroke, I want to raise awareness that strokes can happen to anyone at any time.’

Steve, Steve and Matthew are undertaking this challenge in a £450 2003 Ford Mondeo, which they have had spray painted purple, in keeping with the Stroke

Association colours.

So far they have raised £331 and are nearly half way to their target! With not long to go now, we wish them the best of luck and will keep you up to date on how they get on!
